The conference: Global South 2010

We are pleased to announce Global South 2010 - an inclusive economic development conference.

Global South is a platform to achieve the Millennium Development Goals by promoting inclusive economic development and ethical trade at a grassroots level. The conference will bring together ethical trade small producers; traders, wholesalers and retailers; responsible tourism service providers; environmental organisations and sustainability initiatives; NGOs, academics and regulatory agencies; and more. Our goal is to create opportunities for the exchange of ideas and best practices, successful implementations and sustainable success stories from across the developing world.

It is the ideal moment to be launching the first conference in the series, as Global South has positioned its conference objectives within the larger context of achieving sustainable development through the United Nations' Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). The conference aims to facilitate measures that help achieve 4 of 8 of the Millennium Development Goals: eradicating extreme poverty and hunger; promoting gender equality and empowering women; ensuring environmental sustainability; and creating global partnerships for development.

Also important are the opportunities that the conference creates for education, interaction, networking and community building. The 2010 theme is beating the drum for inclusive economic development and the event comprises a conference programme of speakers and panels; an exhibition; networking opportunities and business linkages; and technical and educational demonstrations.
